About me

Alessandra is an interdisciplinary scholar-practitioner focused on inequality, with extensive research experience in Sri Lanka and the UK. Her work focuses on day-to-day experiences of inequality in cities, particularly how people navigate the effects of large-scale urban regeneration programs, both in Colombo and in London. Her articles have been published in international peer-reviewed journals including Contemporary South AsiaAntipode and Environment and Planning D: Society and Space. She is currently working on a book manuscript, Between Time, based on her ethnographic fieldwork in Sri Lanka. In addition to her academic work, Alessandra also brings experience with the use of participatory and deliberative methods to the study of inequality. She has collaborated with peer researchers and authored reports on topics such as gentrification in east London, access to healthy food in Birmingham, migrants’ rights, and race and wealth inequality. Currently, Alessandra is a Senior Researcher at the Centre for Deliberation at the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen).
