This page provides information about refurbishment and maintenance works in halls. Before you apply for a place, read and consider this information carefully, as it might affect your preferred hall.

To keep our buildings in good shape, we sometimes have to carry out maintenance and refurbishment works during term-time.

This page is updated monthly. Projects and schedules sometimes change at short notice, but we're aiming to keep the information on this page as accurate as possible. Use this information as an indication of planned work rather than as a detailed plan.

Bankside House planned works

Currently no scheduled works at Bankside House. 

Butler's Wharf Residence planned works

Balcony repairs will be carried out during 2017/18 in Court 1 and Court 3 at Butler’s Wharf Residence. This work could potentially be quite noisy and the affected area of the building will be covered with scaffolding. We will try to avoid works taking place during the exam period 2018, and no works will take place between June and September 2018. Previous balcony works were carried out with minimal disruption to our residents, and we’re hoping for these works to go just as smoothly.  

Carr-Saunders Hall planned works

Grosvenor House planned works

Currently no scheduled works at Grosvenor House. 

High Holborn Residence planned works

From mid-August until December 2018, we will refurbish the lower ground floor back of bar area. The bar is not usable but the social space can be used. 

From June to October 2018, we will make DDA improvements to flat mezzanine H.

High Holborn Residence - local area planned works

The Post Building 21- 31 New Oxford Street, London, WC1A 1AP 
Laing O'Rourke are the project managers for the demolition and rebuild of The Post Building, which has remained derelict for over 20 years. Works are scheduled to continue until 2019.  Noise is permitted Monday to Friday 8am to 5:30pm and Saturday from 8am to 1pm. All this work has received Camden planning consent. Lilian Knowles House planned works

Kitchen and bedroom furniture in Block D will be removed and replaced between 16 June and 7 September 2019. During this period, contractors will be working between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and occasionally on weekends. They'll try to keep disruption to a minimum, but higher levels of noise are expected especially during the removal of old fittings and the delivery/installation of new ones.

Northumberland House planned works

The second lift at Northumberland House being refurbished from 1 October to 2 December 2018. Works take place Mondays to Fridays between 8am to 5pm with noisy work not starting before 9.30am. The second lift is not affected and remains in operation.

Passfield Hall planned works

Work to refurbish the common room at Passfield Hall will start on Monday 20 August and continue until Friday 28 September 2018. The common room will be out of use during this period. Work will take place during the day from Monday to Friday, and weekend work may be required on Saturdays. Refurbishment works at various stages will be disruptive and will involve loud noise mainly from drilling, banging and wall scraping. Noisy work will not start before 10am and will finish by 5pm.

Rosebery Hall planned works

From August 2018 to August 2019 the ninth and eighth floors of Rosebery Wing will be fully refurbished. The ninth floor will be completed first, and the eighth floor will be completed after this. Once the work on the ninth floor is complete, students originally allocated to the eighth floor will be moved to the newly refurbished rooms on the ninth floor. There will be some noise disruption, dust and early morning deliveries. The usual hours of work will be 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. When weekend work is required, the hours of work will be 10am to 5pm, and  we will notify you in advance.

There may be times when hours of work need to be amended. Students will be kept updated where changes are necessary. We thank you for your understanding.

Sidney Webb House planned works

There are currently no scheduled building works at Sidney Webb House for the academic years 2017/18 and 2018/19.

urbanest King’s Cross planned works

Currently no scheduled works at urbanest King's Cross.

The King’s Cross area continues to be developed however, the facilities and services at urbanest King's Cross will not be affected during this time.

Currently no scheduled works at urbanest Westminster Bridge.
