Balcony repairs will be carried out during 2017/18 in Court 1 and Court 3 at Butler’s Wharf Residence. This work could potentially be quite noisy and the affected area of the building will be covered with scaffolding. We will try to avoid works taking place during the exam period 2018, and no works will take place between June and September 2018. Previous balcony works were carried out with minimal disruption to our residents, and we’re hoping for these works to go just as smoothly.
Currently no scheduled works at Carr-Saunders Hall.
Currently no scheduled works at Grosvenor House.
Flat H kitchen and room 136 at High Holborn Residence will be refurbished from mid-August 2019 through to the end of the Michaelmas term. There is likely to be noise disruption from the work between 9.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday. This will be on an intermittent basis but can be heard throughout the building. Weekend work will be required on Saturdays between 10.30am to 2.30pm. We will keep residents informed throughout.

Kitchen and bedroom furniture in Block D will be removed and replaced between 16 June and 7 September 2019. During this period, contractors will be working between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and occasionally on weekends. They'll try to keep disruption to a minimum, but higher levels of noise are expected especially during the removal of old fittings and the delivery/installation of new ones.
The second lift at Northumberland House being refurbished from 1 October to 2 December 2018. Works take place Mondays to Fridays between 8am to 5pm with noisy work not starting before 9.30am. The second lift is not affected and remains in operation.
The ventilation system and canteen servery at Passfield Hall will be refurbished between Saturday 15 June and Friday 2 August 2019. Works will take place Mondays to Fridays between 9am and 6pm and some work may be necessary on Saturdays. There is likely to be intermittent noise disruption that's audible throughout the building. This also means that a Continental breakfast only will be served between 15 June and 2 August.
Academic year 2018/2019
The Rosebery Wing at Rosebery Hall is currently undergoing major refurbishment. Floor nine has recently been completed. Work on the 8th floor has started and is due to complete in advance of May 2019. There will be noise and vibrations while this work is underway, and dust will occur in areas that are being renovated.
Noisy work will be restricted to working hours on weekdays. It may be necessary to make changes to the working times and schedule to keep the project on track. We will keep you updated about anything that is likely to affect you.
Refurbishment at Rosebery Hall (Myddelton Wing)
En suite bathrooms in the Myddelton Wing will be refurbished between June and September 2019, which we expect to cause some disruption to rooms adjacent. Contractors are working between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday, and they'll occasionally need to work on the weekend, too. We will try to keep noise disruption to a minimum and keep residents informed of key dates when disruption may be more intense.
Academic year 2019/20
From 19 August 2019 to 1 May 2020 (approx), the 7th, 6th, 5th, and 4th floors in the Rosebery Wing will be refurbished. Works will include drilling at times, and this will be significant during the early phases of the project. There will be noise and vibrations while this work is underway, and dust will occur in areas that are being renovated. LSE will work with contractors on site to manage the project and to minimise the impact on our residents wherever possible.
Noisy work will be restricted to working hours on weekdays. Some limited work may be necessary during the weekend or outside published hours. If any such changes are necessary, we will notify residents in advance and work with them where we can.
Where work involves disruption to other services including water, or if temporary access is required to rooms directly above or below the works, we will liaise with residents to provide advance notice and to schedule any such works to minimise inconvenience.
We appreciate your understanding while we work to improve our hall and our service to you.
