Shamel Azmeh is Lecturer in International Development at the University of Bath. At the Centre, he led a three-year collaboration project with the American University in Cairo examining the integration of Morocco and Egypt in 'Mediterranean Production Networks' with European partners. Prior to this, Shamel was based at the Department of International Development at LSE for three years, following the completion of his PhD at the University of Manchester.

He has consulted a number of international organisations such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) on issue related to trade, global value chains, and industrial policy.

Shamel was a Visiting Fellow at the Middle East Centre from 2017–20.
