About me

I am interested in research concerning the teaching of German as a foreign language, German for academic purposes, online language teaching and learning, intercultural rhetoric and pragmatics as well as translation studies. I have worked as an editor in the publication of bilingual German-English dictionaries and maintain an interest in lexicology and lexicography. For my PhD, I looked at the lexical realization of writer-reader interaction in German history monographs and analysed how this "metadiscourse" was rendered in published English translations. I am currently working on the development of an online language course, "German for Academic Reading Purposes" and I am involved in doing research on multilingual London for the LUCIDE network on multilingual citizen communities http://www.urbanlanguages.eu/.

About the Language Centre

The Language Centre here at the London School of Economics reflects the specialist nature of the School itself, namely, a world class institution where the quality of teaching and research is paramount.

LSE is not just a multi-national university but also a multi-lingual one.

We offer English for Academic Purposes programmes, undergraduate degree courses and a range of language options that you can take outside of your main degree programme. All programmes and courses relate language study and support to the fields of interest of social science students.

The Language Centre is part of LSE’s Academic and Professional Development Division.

About the Academic and Professional Development Division

The units in LSE’s Academic and Professional Development Division run degree programmes, courses and events; offer advice, opportunities and funding to advance the development of academic staff and students; and support the implementation of educational strategy and policy across the School.

LSE Educational Strategy Unit

The School’s new Educational Strategy Unit has been established to support the communication of educational strategy, policy and practice at LSE and in particular to facilitate the implementation and progress of the LSE Education Strategy 2015-2020.

LSE Language Centre

The Language Centre provides language courses, language support and services to LSE undergraduate students, post-graduate students, research students, LSE alumni, LSE staff and external students.

LSE LIFE

LSE LIFE is the new academic, personal and professional development centre for undergraduate and taught master’s students, housed in bespoke space on the ground floor of the Library and offering hundreds of events, workshops and one to one sessions each term.

LSE’s flagship interdisciplinary course, LSE100: Thinking like a social scientist, introduces undergraduate students to the ways in which different disciplines analyse some of the major issues confronting contemporary societies.

LSE Teaching and Learning Centre

LSE’s Teaching and Learning Centre offers events, formal qualifications and a range of development and funding opportunities to academic staff and those with teaching roles across the School.
