Daniel Ferreira is Professor of Finance at LSE and Fellow of the European Corporate Governance Institute. He is also a department editor of Management Science, a council member of the Society for Financial Studies, a research fellow at CEPR, and an associate editor of The Economic Journal. He served as Head of the Department of Finance from 2020 to 2023.

Daniel's research lies at the intersection of corporate finance and organisational economics, with a particular focus on corporate governance. He is one of the leading academic experts on corporate boards. His research on board composition, the role of independent directors, and the balance between board monitoring and advisory functions has been covered by The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, and The Economist, among others. His work includes one of the most influential academic articles on board diversity, and his recent research on discrimination in professional settings was published in the Journal of Finance in 2026. He served as an expert witness for the UK Treasury Select Committee inquiry on Women in the City.

Daniel's current work examines how artificial intelligence is reshaping boardroom decision-making and organisations more generally. He is also an expert on the economics of blockchain, crypto, and decentralised finance, and their implications for companies and organisations.

Daniel has served as Director of the PhD in Finance, the MSc Finance, and the BSc Finance. He led the curriculum development of the BSc Finance and the MSc Law and Finance, and is an experienced executive educator, having co-designed the open-enrolment programmes Corporate Finance and Strategy and Finance for Executives, as well as several bespoke courses for companies and organisations. He is also a regular speaker at practitioner and policy events.

Daniel has been at LSE since 2006 and holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago.
