The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment hosted the launch of a new report\, Climate change adaptation laws and policies: A review of trends\, gaps and opportunities in 35 countries\, produced through our work as part of the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance.

As climate risks intensify\, countries are increasingly adopting legal and policy frameworks to support adaptation. This report analyses more than 900 adaptation-relevant laws and policies across 35 countries.

The analysis shows a rapid acceleration in adaptation-related policymaking\, with 75% of laws and policies adopted since the Paris Agreement. However\, significant gaps remain\, including weak progress reporting\, limited integration with sectors such as health and water\, and insufficient alignment between adaptation and disaster risk management.

The report offers recommendations for legislators and policymakers\, including strengthening institutional coordination\, embedding adaptation in public financial management\, and improving policy coherence across development and disaster risk frameworks.

At this launch event\, the authors and invited speakers discussed and reflected on the report’s key findings and what they mean for the future of national adaptation governance\, finance and implementation around the world. The presentation and discussion was followed by audience Q&A.
