About me

Dr Susanna Khavul is a Visiting Senior Fellow in the LSE Department of Management and a research associate at the LSE Centre for Economic Performance.  She is an associate professor in the Lucas School of Business at San José State University in the heart of Silicon Valley.  Previously, she was on the faculty at The University of Texas at Arlington and the London Business School.

Dr Khavul’s research focuses on entrepreneurial finance, crowdfunding, peer-to-peer alternative financial instruments as well as Fintech innovations, financial inclusion, and mobile financial solutions in emerging and developed economies.  Dr. Khavul serves as an associate editor of the Academy of Management Perspectives and is on the editorial boards of Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Venturing, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice and Journal of Small Business Management.

Dr Khavul has received awards for research and teaching excellence including the Academy of Management’s Entrepreneurship Division’s IDEA Award for Thought Leadership, and the Heizer Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship Research.  She holds the title of Distinguished Teaching Professor in the University of Texas System and has received the University of Texas System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award.  She has a doctorate (highest honours) in strategy and entrepreneurship from Boston University and a degree in economics (high honours) from U.C. Berkeley with LSE in the mix.

Dr Khavul co-leads Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Age of Change on LSE’s Executive Summer School and on the TRIUM's Technological Disruption and Entrepreneurship module in San Francisco.
