Executive LLM: Application and Fees

Pre-requisites for admission

You should have strong grades in your law studies. The exact standard depends on the system of legal education in the country where you gained, or will gain, your qualification, but places are normally offered to applicants with the equivalent of a high 2:1 in a UK Bachelor of Laws degree.

If you don't have a law degree or a law conversion course (such as the Graduate Diploma in Law) you may still apply, but you'll need to demonstrate a high level of professional or academic experience in areas closely related to the subjects you wish to study. Each application is considered on its own merits.

You must also have at least three years' post-degree professional experience by the time you start the programme. This might be in a law firm, government, a company, a non-governmental organisation or an international organisation.

If you are not a native English speaker, you may need to provide evidence of your command of English. You should include your test scores, if available, in the relevant section of the application form. If you receive an offer of admission, it will be subject to proof of your score. English tests must be less than two years old at the time of Registration on the programme. If you have not yet taken the test, your application can be considered in its absence, but any offer will be conditional on your achieving the required score. When can I apply and when can I start?

You can apply at any time (though the online application system closes for one week in mid-September). Once admitted, you can begin straight away by taking the next available modules. There's no need to wait for a new academic year.

Applications must reach us at least two months before the module you wish to start with. We recommend applying around six months ahead, to allow time for references and any English-language testing.

How do I apply?

As part of your application you'll need to provide:

  • a personal statement explaining why you want to take the programme;
  • your curriculum vitae; and
  • two references, ideally one academic and one from your current or most recent employer. If you've been out of study for five years or more and can't obtain an academic reference, two professional references are acceptable.

How much does it cost?

  • A one-off registration fee of £650, payable on admission.
  • £4,300 per module, payable in advance of each module.
