About me

Dr Yu Jie (Cherry) is Head of China Foresight Project at LSE IDEAS. Her research focuses on decision-making process of Chinese foreign policy as well as China-EU relations in general. She appears appears regularly at major media outlets and public institutions to comment on China's foreign affairs including BBC (TV & Radio), CCTVthe Independent, the i, South China Morning PostVOA, and Xinhua News Agency. She recently served as an expert witness to the UK House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee inquiry into UK-China Relations.

She gained her doctorate at the International Relations Department, LSE. Her thesis titles as "Partnership ot Partnerships: An Examination on China-EU relations by using China-EU collaboration on climate change and clean energy technology as a case study". 

Prior to LSE IDEAS, she worked as a management consultant and China Desk at London Office of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, GmbH. She worked extensively with leading European conglomerates on China market entry strategies and Chinese State Owned Enterprises on direct investments in Europe, including EADS, Shanghai Automotive (SAIC), China General Nuclear Group (CGN). 

She also teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses at LSE and School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

She obtained her MSc in International Relations from the LSE and her BA (Hons) in Politics and International Studies at University of Warwick.
