LSE Director Baroness Minouche Shafik has been conferred the award of Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences for the impact of her work and for her wider contributions to the social sciences for public benefit.

She joins a number of distinguished individuals from academic, public, private and third sectors who are welcomed as Fellows to the Academy this year. New Fellows are recognised, after an independent peer review process, for the excellence and impact of their work and their wider contributions to the social sciences for public benefit.

Baroness Minouche Shafik said: “I am honoured to have been conferred a Fellowship by the Academy of Social Sciences. The social sciences have a vital role to play in informing how we rebuild our societies after the pandemic, and I am proud to represent LSE’s long tradition of excellence in research and teaching in these important fields.”

The Academy of Social Sciences is the national academy of academics, practitioners and learned societies in social science, championing the vital role social sciences play in education, government and business.

Earlier this year, Baroness Minouche Shafik received an Honorary Fellowship by the British Academy in recognition of her contributions to international development, globalisation and the environment, and the relationship between economic and social policy.
