LSE IDEAS, the London School of Economics and Political Science's foreign policy think tank, has been ranked the third best university affiliated think tank in the world.

As rated by the Think Tank and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania, IDEAS retains its place as Europe's top university affiliated think tank and third of ninety university affiliated think tanks worldwide.

The newly released 2016 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report also includes After the Drug Wars as one of the Best Policy Study-Reports produced by a think tank in 2016.

Professor Michael Cox, Director of IDEAS, said: "As Director I am utterly delighted that LSE IDEAS still remains - unambiguously - in the very top rank of university affiliated think tanks.

Here, I would just like to thank all those who have worked in IDEAS or who have supported IDEAS in so many ways for their many contributions over the past year. This is a truly remarkable achievement of which the School leadership, and indeed the LSE community as a whole, should be justly proud"

LSE Director Professor Julia Black said: "This is a terrific achievement for LSE IDEAS, the School's foreign policy think tank. Congratulations to all those in IDEAS."

Gideon Rachman, Chief Foreign Affairs Commentator, Financial Times and LSE IDEAS Visiting Senior Fellow, also offered "congratulations on a great achievement for IDEAS".

The Think Tank and Civil Societies Program Global Go To Think Tank Index Report is the largest, most comprehensive database of think tanks, comprising over 6,500 institutions in 179 countries since its inception in 1989.

IDEAS was first recognised in the TTCSP rankings in 2011, and has sustained its position amongst the top four university affiliated think tanks worldwide since then. The current ranking of third worldwide and first in Europe in the university affiliated think tank category correspond to forty fifth worldwide and twenty first in Western Europe overall.
