Islam al Khatib is a PhD student in Social Research Methods, supervised by Dr Flora Cornish and Dr Sara Salem. 

Islam is Palestinian refugee writer born and raised in Lebanon interested in using interconnected frameworks to address questions of epistemicide from and through an anticolonial lens. Islam’s PhD project is centred around co-creating community-based research infrastructures that are rooted in people’s very own knowledge-systems, ideologies and resistance practices. The project attempts to take seriously the risk of challenging the need to omit, revise, modify, dilute, edit (any) narrative under the guise of academic research scrutiny. The project hopes to serve as a collaborative and co-created methodological intervention, addressing research related to Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, and at large as a way to contribute to the understanding of both public philosophy and public sociology as methods. 

Parallel to this, Islam is professionally engaged in research concerning the 'Technocene’, emphasizing knowledge creation and methodologies that unpack the relationship between the ‘cyber’ realm and (old &) emerging forms of fascism and as an extension of colonialist and imperialist projects that attempt to own and then distort knowledges. This practice is grounded in the notion of reclaiming tech as a tool for the commons, and as a ‘landscape’ for non-contained knowledge production.
