Professor Ken Booth

Professor Mary Kaldor

Professor Michael Cox

In 1939 E.H. Carr authored a classic book on international politics explaining why the world had experienced a 'Twenty Years' Crisis' following the Versailles Peace Treaty of 1919. With the international system today facing an almost perfect global storm, from the rise of China to the disintegration of the European Union and a surge in isolationism in the United States, many are wondering whether we are on the verge of another crisis of equal intensity. But are we? What can history teach us? And are there any lessons we need to learn from the past that might help us navigate the future?

Ken Booth is EH Carr Professor in the Department of International Politics, University of Wales, Aberystwyth.

Mary Kaldor is Professor of Global Governance and Director of the Civil Society and Human Security Research Unit at LSE.

Professor Michael Cox is Director of LSE IDEAS and Emeritus Professor of International Relations at LSE.

LSE IDEAS (@LSEIDEAS) is a foreign policy think-tank within LSE's Institute for Global Affairs.
