Course content

This course will expand your knowledge of economics and politics to cover firms and nations in the global economy. First, we consider the forces that shape economic behaviour in open economies. Building on both microeconomic and macroeconomic concepts, we will study the forces that affect production, trade, and other forms of international exchange, and analyse the economic effects of trade policy. We will also consider firm decision making in the face of these global forces, and how firms’ decisions shape industry-level and aggregate outcomes. Second, we consider the political foundations and dynamics shaping global trade and economic governance. We will look into the evolving politics of trade and investment agreements and the World Trade Organisation, the root causes of growing geo-economic tensions and tariff wars as well as efforts to reform global economic governance to better accommodate the diverse domestic political economies of advanced and emerging economies.
