Availability

This course is compulsory on the MSc in Applied Social Data Science. This course is not available as an outside option to students on other programmes.

Course content

The capstone course is a dissertation project that represents the final element in the construction of a student’s data science master’s education. The capstone project takes the form of a written thesis of up to 10,000 words that investigates empirically a problem related to some social science field using the tools of data science. The topic will be developed throughout the research design seminar and adjusted and agreed to by the student’s supervisor.

Teaching

This course has a reading week in Week 6 of Autumn and Winter Term.

Formative assessment

Each student will be required to give a short presentation outlining the subject and proposed research design of the project in a session organised for all students during ST.
