For PhD students who are embarking on writing their thesis and who are interested in learning more about academic English and academic writing.

Course content

This course is designed to support postgraduate students in developing the advanced academic writing skills necessary for producing a high-quality thesis in the social sciences. It focuses on the conventions of academic discourse, the structure and development of arguments, and the clear and coherent presentation of ideas. Students will engage in writing practice, peer review, and self-assessment to refine their writing style, expand their academic vocabulary, and enhance grammatical accuracy. The course also emphasizes the critical evaluation of sources, integration of evidence, and the development of a clear authorial voice appropriate for postgraduate-level research.
