Availability
This course is compulsory on the BA in Anthropology and Law and LLB in Laws. This course is available on the Erasmus Reciprocal Programme of Study and Exchange Programme for Students from University of California, Berkeley. This course is freely available as an outside option to students on other programmes where regulations permit. It does not require permission. This course is freely available to General Course students. It does not require permission.
Course content
The course covers: the conceptual framework of public law; central government and the executive; parliament; multi-layered government (the European Union, devolution and local government); judicial review; and civil liberties and human rights.
Teaching
16 hours of lectures and 9 hours of classes in the Autumn Term.
20 hours of lectures and 10 hours of classes in the Winter Term.
This course has a reading week in Week 6 of Autumn and Winter Term.
This course will have a minimum of two hours of teaching content each week in Autumn Term and Winter Term in the form of two lectures (every week) and a one-hour class (week 2 onwards).
Formative assessment
Students will be expected to produce one essay in the AT and one essay in the WT.
Other assignments will be set by the class teacher or the course convenor, as required.
