Research paper in Finance

This information is for the 2025/26 session.

Availability

This course is compulsory on the MRes in Finance. This course is not available as an outside option to students on other programmes. This course uses controlled access as part of the course selection process.

All students on a programme listed under the Course Availability will be given a place. This course is closed to outside students and does not permit auditing students.

Course content

Students produce a research paper, between 6,000 and 8,000 words, related to their designated major field, to be submitted in ST. Students must also give a 60-minute presentation on their research paper in ST.

Teaching

There are no direct teaching hours.

Formative assessment

Students are required to give two presentations to the PhD Programme Director and their advisor. The first is a 20-minute presentation describing the research project plan that has been agreed with their advisor at the end of AT. The second is a 30-minute progress report and plan for completion at the end of WT. The students will receive feedback on both presentations.

 

Assessment

Research paper (100%)

The research paper also includes a presentation and jointly these constitute 100%.

The research paper will be 6,000-8,000 words in length and due in ST.

The presentation will be 60 minutes in length, take place in ST, and be delivered to the student’s advisor and another faculty member.
