Availability

This course is compulsory on the MSc in Law and Finance. This course is not available as an outside option to students on other programmes. This course uses controlled access as part of the course selection process.

All students on a programme listed under the Course Availability will be given a place. This course is closed to outside students and does not permit auditing students.

Requisites

Co-requisites:

Students must complete FM479 and LL4FA either before taking this course or in the same year as this course.

Course content

This course covers advanced topics in Corporate Finance. It focuses on the strategy, valuation and execution of corporate deals. In particular, the first part of the course covers mergers, divestitures, partial-divestitures (e.g. equity carve outs) and leveraged buyouts. The second part of the course provides a framework of analysis for the resolution of financial distress and bankruptcy. Each of the topics introduced in this course covers both institutional details and results of relevant academic research. It is furthermore supported by case studies.

Teaching

30 hours of lectures in the Winter Term.

This course is taught in the interactive lecturing format. There is no distinction between lectures and classes/seminars; there are "sessions" only, and the pedagogical approach in each session is interactive, totalling 30 hours across the Winter Term.

Formative assessment

There will be some formative assignments distributed during the term.

 

Indicative reading

A course pack will be distributed that includes case studies as well as additional readings such as textbook chapters, and practitioner articles.
