Research Workshop in European Studies

Availability

This course is compulsory on the MPhil/PhD in European Studies. This course is available with permission as an outside option to students on other programmes where regulations permit.

The course is recommended for those second and third year PhD students in the Government Department whose research focuses on European topics.

Course content

Presentation and detailed discussion of PhD related research, outlines and progression. Discussion of thesis chapters and related doctoral research, with an emphasis on research design and methodology. A detailed syllabus is fixed at the start of each term.

Teaching

10 hours of seminar (hybrid)s and 15 hours of workshop (hybrid)s in the Winter Term.
10 hours of seminar (hybrid)s and 15 hours of workshop (hybrid)s in the Autumn Term.

This course has a reading week in Week 6 of Autumn and Winter Term.

This course will be delivered through hybrid seminars.

Assessment

There is no examination for this course. Regular attendance and active participation is required. All students are required: to present at least one substantial chapter/paper draft; to act as a discussant on another paper; and to read papers in advance of the seminar in which they are discussed.
