Academic Writing Skills

Pre-requisites

For students of Management and Methodology who are interested in learning more about academic writing to assist with coursework, dissertations and exams.

Course content

The course aims to develop the ability to write more effectively for academic purposes. By the end of the course, students will: (a) be familiar with the conventions of academic writing (b) have improved the accuracy, clarity and coherence of their written English c) have become more familiar with the structure of arguments in the social sciences and have practised clear organisation of texts and appropriate paragraphing; (d) have extended their range of lexical and grammatical expression and (e) be able to evaluate their own writing.

Teaching

10 hours of classes in the MT. 10 hours of classes in the LT.

Classes will be in Weeks 1-5 and Weeks 7-11 of MT and LT. 1-2-1 tutorials will be available in the Week 6 Reading Week.
