This course is compulsory on the BSc in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics and BSc in Economics. This course is not available as an outside option nor to General Course students.
Course content
In this course, we discuss what currently the key economic questions are for countries across the world. Examples are the interactions between firms and their customers, relationships between employers and employees, different market structures, recessions, (financial) instability, poverty, lack of growth, inequality, and global warming. You will learn how to characterize the relevant aspects (measurement), how economics can be used to shed light on a range of different questions, and how economics could provide insights into policies to affect outcomes and improve human wellbeing.

There are weekly assignments and feedback will be given on two.

Assessment
Essay (100%, 1500 words) in the LT.
The assessment consists of a group project in which students are asked to characterize a current economic problem in a specific country, discuss its causes and possible policy remedies.
