This course is compulsory on the MPhil/PhD in Philosophy. This course is not available as an outside option.

Course content

In this course, we will read and carefully discuss together a range of classic papers in contemporary analytic philosophy that might not otherwise be covered in LSE Philosophy Department courses. Topics are selected from metaphysics, the philosophy of mind and action, epistemology, and the philosophy of language. This list is illustrative.

Indicative reading

Specific readings will be announced in a detailed syllabus at the start of the term.

Assessment

Two essays of 5000 words each over the course of the two terms. Either or both of these essays may be replaced by two shorter essays each of 2500 words.
