This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and analytical capabilities needed to exercise leadership in organisations. It explores several facets of leadership and considers how leadership develops. The emphasis will be on application of theory and comparing and contrasting different approaches to leadership.
The course examines topics such as: leadership and management; trait, behavioural and contingency theories of leadership; individual differences in leadership; leadership development; transformational and transactional forms of leadership; and issues of gender and culture.
25 hours of seminars in the LT. 2 hours and 30 minutes of seminars in the ST.
Each 2.5 hour session will include a combination of lecture and seminar work. Students are expected to prepare for and contribute to each session. Seminar work will include case analyses and small group discussions. Students on this course will have a reading week in Week 6, in line with departmental policy.
Students will complete a formative assessment based on previous exam questions. The details will be discussed in week 1. The assignment deadline will be after week 6.
