Availability

This course is compulsory on the MPhil/ PhD in Mathematics. This course is available with permission as an outside option to students on other programmes where regulations permit.

Other members of the research community are welcome to attend.

Course content

The seminars range across many areas of pure and applied mathematics. The emphasis is on topics in discrete mathematics, algorithms and game theory. The seminars are regarded as an important part of research students' formal training and they will all be expected to attend and contribute.  Throughout the academic year, students are also invited to give presentations.

There are additional reading groups aimed at students working in financial mathematics. These are compulsory for students working in this area but other students of the MPhil/PhD in Mathematics are welcome to attend.

Teaching

1 hour and 30 minutes of seminars, 12 hours of seminars, 10 hours of seminars and 7 hours of seminars in the MT. 4 hours of lectures, 39 hours of seminars, 8 hours of seminars and 13 hours of seminars in the LT. 30 hours of seminars, 20 hours of seminars and 10 hours of seminars in the ST.
