This course is available on the MSc in Gender, MSc in Gender (Research), MSc in Gender, Development and Globalisation, MSc in Gender, Policy and Inequalities and MSc in Social Policy and Development: Non-Governmental Organisations. This course is available as an outside option to students on other programmes where regulations permit.

The period from the 1990s onwards, which has seen the rapid acceleration of globalization and the consolidation of neoliberal policies and practices, has also been marked by a wide variety of social movements directly engaging with and challenging these processes. These movements have been characterized by new collectivities, new forms of organizing, and multiple visions of social, economic and political transformation. Exploring experiences and perspectives emerging from social movements, cutting across divisions between the ‘global North’ and ‘global South,’ this interdisciplinary course brings a transnational gender perspective to bear on these movements, the contexts in which they are located and the debates and contradictions they have generated.
