LSE’s Department of Statistics has earned an international reputation for the development of statistical methodology that has grown from its long history and active contributions to research and teaching in statistics for the social sciences.

The LSE Department of Mathematics is internationally recognised for its teaching and research. Located within a world-class social science institution, the department aims to be a leading centre for Mathematics in the Social Sciences. The Department of Mathematics was submitted jointly to REF 2014 with LSE's Department of Statistics: 84% of the research outputs of the two departments were classed as either world-leading or internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour.  

LSE’s Department of Methodology is an internationally recognised centre of excellence in research and teaching in the area of social science research methodology. The Department coordinates and provides a focus for methodological activities at the School, in particular in the areas of graduate student (and staff) training and of methodological research.
