Supporting transition to LSE

Headstart has been such an important initiative in my transition to LSE.

Starting university is exciting, but it can also bring unique challenges and anxieties. Our Headstart programme aims to support with the transition to university life. It’s aimed at students who have taken part in one of our widening participation activities or are from a group currently under-represented at LSE. Headstart aims to create a network of supportive peers, signpost opportunities, enhance the university experience and maximise success at LSE and beyond.

When and where does the scheme run?

The programme starts with a launch event that will take place the week before LSE Welcome Week. Other details for 2021/22 are in the process of being confirmed.

What activities are included?

Activities for the 2021/22 cohort are currently being designed. For updates on the Headstart programme and what will be included, please keep an eye on this webpage.  

Are there any costs involved?

There is no cost to attend. Travel reimbursements are available to cover the costs to and from sessions, if required.

Who is eligible?

  • Students who have taken part in a widening participation activity with LSE or a partner organisation  

  • Students who come from a group currently underrepresented at LSE, as outlined in our Access and Participation plan.

How can I find out more and apply?

You do not need to apply to be part of the LSE Headstart programme. Eligible offer holders who have met the conditions of their offer will be invited to join Headstart as soon as possible after A-level results day.

Cancellation Policy

Please note that as a result of circumstances or events outside of our control (known as ‘Force Majeure’ events and including but not limited to industrial action, official government advice, fire, flood or other environmental or physical damage to premises), we may need to cancel sessions at short notice. 

In the event of a cancellation, change of venue or date, we will endeavour to notify attendees wherever possible through the contact details given at the time of booking. For the avoidance of doubt, the School will not be liable for any costs you may incur as a result of any cancellation, change of venue or date.
