Bert Provan holds a PhD in social policy from LSE, and has wide experience of housing and regeneration work in local and central government. He has directly managed housing management and regeneration projects in some of the most deprived areas of the country,. He worked for many years as a Senior Civil Servant in the Departments of Work and Pensions, and of Communities and Local Government where he was responsible for a range of welfare benefit, housing and regeneration policy development and delivery areas. He was also Head of Profession for Social Research in the Communities department for several years.
His research interests at LSE include the impact of recent changes to housing and welfare benefits policies, the social return on investment of social housing regeneration in the UK and France, and knowledge management.
