The Middle East Centre welcomes applications for Visiting Fellowships on a rolling basis. Fellowships are offered to post-doctoral researchers who will make a significant contribution to the work of the MEC. Fellowships may also be given to recognise or enable contributions to the MEC from those in journalism, government service, in professional practice, or in other appropriate fields.
Please note that the MEC receives a high number of applications and is only able to support a very small proportion of these that fit best with the Centre’s research programmes and capacity. Visiting Fellowships are unpaid. PhD students are not eligible.
This category applies to post-doctoral researchers or professionals at a broadly comparable level in the early stages of their career. Academic candidates should have completed a PhD at the time of application.
Visiting Senior Fellow
This category includes academics who are of the lecturer (post-major review equivalent), senior lecturer or reader level and professionals at a broadly comparable level in their profession.
The School may confer the title of Visiting Professor on persons of appropriate distinction whose connections with the School are appropriate to the visiting title. It includes individuals with a non-academic background who may have achieved prominence in public life, or who have attained distinction in their profession.
Visiting appointments run for 12 months. Fellows are expected to fully engage with the Centre's activities and to spend some of their appointment based at the Middle East Centre.
The MEC will consider applications according to the following criteria:
- Experience or potential of the candidate;
- Contribution to the work of the MEC;
- Value of proposed research and fit with existing MEC research;
- Value of applicant's expertise and fit with existing expertise within the MEC;
- Funding and resources.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and nominations are considered once a term, in September, January and May.
