Request to Change MSc Programme

Exceptionally, students may be permitted to change to a different programme after registration. The Department of Media & Communications requires you to follow our departmental procedure. Please note the following:

  • You must first register for the programme for which you received and accepted an offer. You cannot apply to transfer programmes until you have registered at LSE.
  • All requests for transfer into or within the Department of Media & Communications will be considered after 9am Monday 3rd October 2016, this enables us to make decisions based on the overall numbers of students on each programme.
  • The decision on programme transfers lies with the programme director for each MSc and with the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Media & Communications. The procedure for effecting the change lies with the Student Services Centre.
  • We aim to advise you of our decision by 5pm Thursday 6th October 2016.

  • Sometimes we can make a decision very quickly, based only on the information you supply in this webform, on other occasions (especially if you originally registered with a different Department and so we have not seen your application file) this may take considerably longer, as we will need to retrieve your file from  Registry.
  • If your request to transfer is successful, you will need to complete the Programme Transfer form in hard copy. We suggest that, in order to save time, you complete the form and deliver it to our MSc Programmes Manager, Nicole Garnier, in room TW2.6.01J before the deadline date.  If your request to transfer is successful, we will obtain the required staff signatures and send the form to the Student Services Centre.  If your request is unsuccessful, we will not process the form.
  • A successful request can take up to eight working days to be processed from the date of confirmation that your request has been successful. During this time you will be able to attend classes, but it is possible that your name may not appear on the class register and some mailing lists may become out of date while we update our records.
  • One of the consequences of choosing to transfer is that from the point when the transfer is completed by the Student Service Centre (which could be up to 30th October), you will be considered as a new student on that programme, i.e. you must make fresh course choices, re-select your seminar groups and you may lose your priority access to some courses.

Complete and submit this online form by 9am Monday 3rd October. If you submit the form after this deadline, it may take longer to consider your application, and it is less likely that a transfer will be approved.
