Dr. Yves Punie

Since May 2001, Yves Punie is Research Fellow at the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) in Seville, one of joint research centres of the European Commission DG JRC (www.jrc.es). The ICT Unit of IPTS runs cross cutting and multidisciplinary foresight exercises and socio-economic impact studies in the field of IST (http://fiste.jrc.es). Amongst others, Yves Punie has worked for the EMTEL project (European Media, Technology and Everyday Life research network), in particular on the social and technological aspects of Ambient Intelligence in Everyday Life (www.emtel2.org) and for the  MUDIA project (Multimedia in the Digital Age), in particular on future scenarios for online media (www.mudia.org). He was also involved in the LIBE study for the European Parliament on privacy, security and identity in the future information society (http://fiste.jrc.es). In general, Punie is doing social studies of new technologies, especially in relation to the domestic environment. He holds a phd. in social sciences at the Free University of Brussels (VUB). Before joining IPTS, he was interim Assistant Professor in Mediasociology at the VUB (2000-2001) and senior researcher at SMIT (Studies on Media, Information and Telecommunication; VUB).
