Financialisation of China’s digital news industry in the context of post-socialist capitalism
Abstract
Following the critical political economy of communication approach, my thesis investigates the financialisation of China’s digital news industry in the historical context of China’s post-socialist transformations. Attempting to transcend the conventional dichotomous banalities that shape Chinese media studies, this research focuses on the different patterns of state-capital nexus played out in the Chinese media system along with the deepening of capitalist development. This project unpacks the dynamic relationship between state capital, private capital and transnational financial capital that has been financialising the structure of the digital news sector, as well as the continuous reconstitution of state power in the post-socialist context.
