About me

Dr Kari Koskinen studies the role of context in technology development and appropriation, with a special interest in innovation processes that occur in the global South. In his research he focuses on societal routines, and how those help to explain the type of technologies that are developed, but also how society changes with the development and appropriation of the technologies. In addition to this, Kari is involved in research projects investigating the implications of digitalization to product development and product life cycles.

Prior to his role as an LSE Fellow, Dr Koskinen did his PhD in the Information Systems and Innovation Group in the Department of Management at LSE. Before his PhD, Dr Koskinen obtained a Master’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Helsinki, and completed a Master’s programme on Information and Knowledge Society, from the Open University of Catalonia.  He has also worked for several years in the IT industry, in different roles and companies.
