About me

I grew up in the vineyards around Stuttgart in southern Germany, studied History, English and Ethnology at the FU Berlin and in Tübingen, then went to Cambridge for my PhD thesis on German exile politics in nineteenth century London. After a spell as Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin in Cologne, Germany, and Washington University St Louis I have been living in London and teaching at various institutions for some twenty years. My courses have centred on German history, mostly the Third Reich and the Holocaust, as well as German language. I joined the LSE in 2019 and very much enjoy the focus on political and social sciences. I have an interest in literature and exile studies but also the history and development of languages and am currently struggling with Norwegian.

About the Language Centre

LSE is a centre for the study of the social sciences and this is reflected in its Language Centre.

Our courses focus on language and society, encouraging you to learn how to use language in the contexts you would like to live, study and work in. We teach people to speak languages, but also teach about language (socio-linguistics and intercultural communication) and offer a range of courses on literature and society.

We offer English for Academic Purposes programmes, BSc programmes a range of undergraduate degree courses that can be taken as part of a degree and a range of language options that can be taken outside of a degree programme. All programmes and courses relate language study and support to the fields of interest of social science students.
