About me

Dr Elize Massard da Fonseca holds a PhD in Social Policy from the University of Edinburgh and in Public Health from the National School of Public Health in Brazil. She is a non-resident Visiting Fellow at the Latin America and Caribbean Centre and Assistant Professor of Public Administration at the São Paulo School of Business Administration, Getúlio Vargas Foundation (EAESP/FGV) in Brazil. 

Her research relates to political institutions, political economy (qualitative) of public health policies, and pharmaceutical regulation in Latin America. She has studied public policies for infectious and emerging diseases (AIDS, hepatitis C, COVID-19), the politics of drug regulation reform in Brazil, health-industrial policies, and more recently the politics and policy for COVID-19 in comparative perspective.

Her work has appeared in high-impact journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Social Science and Medicine, PLoS Medicine, Politics and Society, Journal of Latin American Studies, and others. She is co-organizing an edited book about Coronavirus Politics that will be published by the University of Michigan Press (2021).
