Relaunching the site

Find out who links to your site and let them know in plenty of time that your URLs may be changing. Often people print URLs on hard copy marketing and information material, and this may happen a while before you make your changes. They also need to know when to amend links from their sites to yours.

If you can, let your users know beforehand that you're changing the site. After restructuring, add a message on the home page telling users that it's changed. Ask them to let you know if there's anything they can't find or would like to comment on or complain about. Encourage and act on user feedback once the site has been relaunched.

If there are pages you know were popular before your restructure, retain them and add a message directing users to the right place in the new structure.
