From all of these perspectives, the evidence gathered by the Review leads to a simple conclusion: the benefits of strong and early action far outweigh the economic costs of not acting.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The main findings of <em>The Economics of Climate Change: The Stern Review<\/em> included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>there is still time to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, if we take strong action now;<\/li>\n<li>climate change could have very serious impacts on growth and development;<\/li>\n<li>the costs of stabilising the climate are significant but manageable; delay would be dangerous and much more costly;<\/li>\n<li>action on climate change is required across all countries, and it need not cap the aspirations for growth of rich or poor countries;<\/li>\n<li>a range of options exists to cut emissions; strong, deliberate policy action is required to motivate their take-up; and<\/li>\n<li>climate change demands an international response, based on a shared understanding of long-term goals and agreement on frameworks for action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>The Economics of Climate Change: The Stern Review<\/em> has become one of the most influential reports on climate change ever produced since its release by Her Majesty&rsquo;s Treasury of the UK Government in October 2006. The report was <a class=\"link link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/us\/academic\/subjects\/earth-and-environmental-science\/climatology-and-climate-change\/economics-climate-change-stern-review?format=PB\" aria-describedby=\"link-description-new-window\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">published as a volume&#65279;<svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewbox=\"0 0 16 16\" role=\"img\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><path d=\"M14.42 1.04L3.2.7a.8.8 0 00-.8.76v.1a.8.8 0 00.76.7l9.39.3L.93 14.16c-.3.3-.3.8 0 1.1l.09.08c.3.23.73.2 1.01-.07L13.65 3.65l.29 9.4a.8.8 0 00.8.76.79.79 0 00.77-.8L15.17 1.8a.82.82 0 00-.75-.76z\" fill=\"#2e3152\"><\/path><\/svg><\/a> in January 2007 by Cambridge University Press.<\/p>\n<p>It was led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lse.ac.uk\/granthaminstitute\/profile\/nicholas-stern\/\">Nicholas Stern<\/a>, then Head of the UK Government Economic Service, and now Chair of both the <a class=\"link link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cccep.ac.uk\/\" aria-describedby=\"link-description-new-window\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">ESRC Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy&#65279;<svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" viewbox=\"0 0 16 16\" role=\"img\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><path d=\"M14.42 1.04L3.2.7a.8.8 0 00-.8.76v.1a.8.8 0 00.76.7l9.39.3L.93 14.16c-.3.3-.3.8 0 1.1l.09.08c.3.23.73.2 1.01-.07L13.65 3.65l.29 9.4a.8.8 0 00.8.76.79.79 0 00.77-.8L15.17 1.8a.82.82 0 00-.75-.76z\" fill=\"#2e3152\"><\/path><\/svg><\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lse.ac.uk\/granthaminstitute\/\">Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment<\/a> at the London School of Economics and Political Science.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Economics of Climate Change: The Stern Review<\/em> was announced by the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, in July 2005, and was commissioned to report to the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and the Chancellor by autumn 2006, on the following issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the economics of moving to a low-carbon global economy, focusing on the medium- to long-term perspective, and drawing implications for the timescales for action, and the choice of policies and institutions;<\/li>\n<li>the potential of different approaches for adaptation to changes in the climate; and<\/li>\n<li>specific lessons for the UK, in the context of its existing climate change goals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Since its publication, Nicholas Stern and the contributors to the Review have published a number of academic papers relating to the report.
