The Financing the Blue Economy (BluFinPlan) programme at the LSE’s Global School of Sustainability works with local communities, NGOs, researchers, and policymakers through equitable partnerships to determine how best to harness international sustainable blue finance for inclusive and resilient coastal communities in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs), whilst also contributing to global carbon mitigation goals. Insufficient regulation and under enforcement of regulations are critical root causes of mangrove loss, leading to underinvestment in their protection and restoration. We particularly focus on addressing financing gaps in blue carbon through an improved understanding of the economic case for mangroves and improved policies for marine protected areas, to ensure a just and equitable transition towards protection and restoration of mangroves that also results in sustainable fisheries management with higher fish stocks and fish harvests.<\/p>\n

The BluFinPlan is hosted by Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, cutting across GSoS themes, such as “Building sustainable societies” and “Protecting and enhancing nature and biodiversity”. Research and policy outputs primarily contribute to the priority area of blue food security at the GSoS Climate Food (In)security Lab.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n
