Hashim Zaman is a Nature Economy Specialist at the Earth Capital Nexus<\/strong><\/a> at the Grantham Research Institute for Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He helps design and scale nature restoration systems across emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs), advance the application of Nature Value at Risk (nVAR) and Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) frameworks, and embed nature and resilience into decision-making across governments, corporates, and financial institutions—from sovereigns and landscapes to sectors, businesses, and value chains, helping catalyse investment for a more inclusive, resilient, and nature-positive future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Background<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Hashim is an environmental economist by training, and holds a master’s degree in environmental economics and natural resource management from Wageningen University, Netherlands. His thesis focused on the Economic Valuation of Central Karakoram National Park, the largest protected area in Pakistan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hashim Zaman is a biodiversity specialist with over a decade of experience working at the intersection of nature, finance, and policy, across international NGOs, multilateral institutions, and the private sector, including at Barclays, UNEP-WCMC, UNDP, IUCN, and WWF. Across these roles, he has led work on advancing nature-related impact and risk assessments, natural capital accounting, and scaling biodiversity finance to help embed nature into financial decision-making and public policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside of work, Hashim sits on the Technical Panel of Experts on Global Ocean Accounting; is a fellow at Climatebase, UK Network for Environmental Economists, and at the Royal Geographical Society; and is a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP), Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP), and IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
