Tobias’s work focused on the impact of trade liberalization and climate change policies on various firm characteristics including energy efficiency, productivity and exporting behaviour of firms in developed and developing countries. Moreover, Tobias is also interested in the economics of regional trade agreements and their impact on the multilateral trading system, as well as the effect of geographical and institutional aspects on the environment, migration and economic performance at a sub-national regional level. Tobias left in November 2014 to take up a permanent post at the European Commission in Brussels.<\/p>\n

Background<\/h3>\n

Tobias has a background in international trade and completed his PhD studies at the University of Nottingham. Using micro-level trade and tariff data, his PhD thesis focused on the relationship between multilateral and preferential trade agreements, as well as on the substitution of different trade policy instruments.<\/p>\n

Tobias took part in a French-German double degree programme and holds an MSc in economics from the Johann-Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) and from Paris Dauphine (France).<\/p>\n

Tobias also has an M.A. in European Economic Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges.<\/p>\n

Apart from numerous internship in the private and public sector Tobias has also worked as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Nottingham and as a consultant for the World Bank.<\/p>\n
