Brendan Curran, Policy Fellow (Sustainable Finance)<\/strong> at Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science<\/strong>, said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Green Finance Strategy has failed to deliver a clear roadmap that will deliver the annual investment needed for net zero, lacks any additional money to support the transition and leaves us trailing behind the rest of the globe.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There is a welcome expansion of what constitutes green finance beyond climate with strong recognition of the need for a nature positive future. However, despite commitments to a just transition from the UK Government Transition Plan Taskforce, the strategy lacks any focus on how people can be supported through the transition. Putting jobs, businesses and our economy at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This strategy is a mixed bag overall and the UK Government must take further action to ensure financial stability as climate change continues, provide financial regulators with a net zero statutory objective and ensure the Bank of England’s Climate Hub is sufficiently well-resourced.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
