Nicholas Stern, chair of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), has won two prestigious environmental awards: the Blue Planet Prize, and the Royal Geographical Society’s Patron’s Medal, in recognition of his work on the economics of climate change.<\/p>\n

The Blue Planet Prize, now in its eighteenth year, is an international environmental award sponsored by the Asahi Glass Foundation. Two Blue Planet Prizes are awarded each year to individuals or organisations making outstanding contributions to research on global environmental problems.<\/p>\n

Lord Stern has also been recognised for his outstanding contribution to geography, being awarded the Royal Geographical Society’s Patron’s Medal in recognition of his ‘outstanding contribution to climate change policy.’ Her Majesty the Queen approves the award of the Patron’s Medal, which is among the highest honours in the world relating to the development and promotion of geography.<\/p>\n
