The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award has been awarded to Lord Nicholas Stern, for his “pioneering report [that] shaped and focused the discourse on the economics of climate change”. This report – the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change, published in 2006 – also provided “a unique and robust basis for decision-making.”<\/p>\n

BBVA goes on to add that the report “concludes that it is makes more economic sense to take measures against climate change than to bear the costs of inaction.”<\/p>\n

Nicholas Stern commented: “I feel very privileged to receive a prize that is dedicated specifically to climate change research. It is certainly a very clear statement of the importance that the BBVA Foundation attaches to an area so vital for the future existence of human beings on this planet.”<\/p>\n

Stern was nominated for the award by the British Academy and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).<\/p>\n

The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards were set up to recognise and encourage research and artistic creation, “prizing contributions of lasting impact for their originality, theoretical significance and ability to push back the frontiers of the known world.”<\/p>\n
