Professor Lord Stern of Brentford, Chair of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science, has been made a Companion of Honour in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, announced on 16 June 2017, for services to economics, international relations and climate change. Professor Sam Fankhauser, Co-Director of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science, said: “We are delighted that Nick Stern’s long and distinguished years of public service have been recognised in this way. He has made seminal contributions to the study and application of economics. In particular, Nick’s career has shown a longstanding and very deep commitment to improving the lives of poor people around the world, and has used his knowledge and understanding to encourage better public policy-making. And he has helped to transform the world’s understanding of the economics of climate change with his landmark review that clearly showed that the costs of inaction would be far greater than the costs of action.
