Whole-system &ldquo;integrative design&rdquo; makes the energy efficiency resource severalfold bigger than normally assumed, yet less costly. Modern renewables and their grid integration robustly outcompete fossil-fueled or nuclear power generation. Combined, these resources can make ambitious climate protection not costly but profitable, often with increasing returns, saving immense investments. The tradeoffs and discount-rate dependencies analyzed for the past few decades do not actually exist. Instead, disruptive designs, technologies, and business models are changing the competitive landscape beyond recognition, merging Edison&rsquo;s electric industry with Ford&rsquo;s automaking to devour Rockefeller&rsquo;s oil industry. He received 12 honorary doctorates and many top global energy and environmental awards. A former Oxford don, honorary US architect, and Swedish engineering academician, he has taught at ten universities and is currently Adjunct Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford.
