Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether most countries can meet the challenge of tackling climate change while simultaneously ensuring growth and poverty reduction remains debatable. This research examines the developmental implications of energy transitions by identifying three dimensions of Green Industrial Policy: (i) the consumption-centred approach; (ii) the firm-level sustainability approach; (iii) the productionist innovation-driven agenda. This paper then applies this policy framework to the country case of Ecuador. While serious policy efforts were devoted towards transforming the country’s energy matrix towards clean energies, progress has been slower than anticipated due to the lack of policy coherence across the three dimensions of green industrial policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Departing from the environmental conservation \/ exploitation dichotomy, the presentation will then examine the potential for leveraging biodiversity endowment for low carbon innovation through biomimicry in countries such as Ecuador. It will end by addressing the context of the pandemic by discussing the implications of this research for the opportunities and challenges for a green recovery in post-COVID Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
