Dr Chao-Yo Cheng is an LSE Fellow at the Department of International Development and the Department of Methodology at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).


Cheng holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and an MA in Political Science from Columbia University. He applies both quantitative and qualitative methods to address various topics in the political economy of institutions and development. He has participated in different projects in India that explore power sector reform, energy transition, energy access, as well as the acceptance and adoption of solar energy at the household level. His current research involves the use of satellite images to study how different central-local relations shape land uses in post-reform China.
