More than 70 countries have national net zero targets\, but as of October 2023\, only 29 countries have translated such targets into domestic legislation. Multiple reports continue to show worrying shortfalls in the ambition\, implementation\, and credibility of national commitments to reaching net zero emissions.
What drives political commitments by countries to net zero? Which governance elements are required at the national level to help transform the commitments into laws and policies? How can effective implementation be enabled and sustained?
This event will present findings from a newly released report by the Grantham Research Institute\, analysing key enablers to net zero and challenges around implementation\, with in-depth insights from Fiji and Spain. The report is available to read here.
