Pieter is LSE Fellow in the Political Economy of Europe since September 2017. He completed degrees in Philosophy as well as Economics at the KU Leuven (Belgium) before joining the London School of Economics for his MSc and PhD. Earlier Pieter worked as policy consultant (Technopolis Group and IDEA Consult) and completed a traineeship at the European Commission (DG ENTR).
His research focuses on the political economy of welfare states, with particular attention to the welfare-finance nexus. In his thesis he investigated the interaction between reforms of public and private welfare provision. More recent work examines the relationship between social insurance, financial market regulation and macro-economic instability.
